If you and your dogs are looking for something fun to do together this Halloween, look no further. Join us for Paws & Pumpkins, our annual dog Halloween costume contest hosted right here at The Refuge!
What Is Howl’o’ween?
Howl’o’ween is our annual Halloween event for dog lovers, hosted right here on-site.
As you may already know, we’re a canine-friendly establishment here at The Refuge. We host regular Barkin’ Brunch events that support the animal rescue and adoption center, Little Shelter. We also provide a place for the Long Island community to gather and enjoy good food, drink, and entertainment options without leaving their best friends at home.
In that same spirit, we bring you Howl’o’ween, a night of food, fun, friends, a dog Halloween costume contest, and (good-natured) fright so that you can celebrate Spooky Season in style.
What Can I Expect?
At Howl’o’ween, we have a whole night of wholesome fun planned for you and your dogs alike.
Dog Halloween Costume Contest
What would a Halloween party be without a costume contest? Dress yourself and your dogs in your favorite costumes for the best chance to win. While it is not strictly necessary for you and your dog to dress in matching Halloween costumes, the approach is always a crowd-pleaser.
A few dog-owner Halloween costume contest ideas for dog lovers:
- Ghost Best Friends. For this classic, all you’ll need is two white bedsheets you don’t mind cutting eye holes in and a very patient dog willing to let you drape a sheet over its head.
- Cruella de Vil. Though you don’t strictly need to own a Dalmatian to pull this one off, it does work best. In a pinch, you can also add spots to your pup and slap a wig and fur coat on yourself.
- A Witch and Her Familiar. Though we tend to think of black cats and toads, witch lore holds that witches can have a variety of animals as their familiars. Why not your favorite pup?
- Cat in the Hat (with as many Things as needed). While Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat really only popularized Thing One and Thing Two, with a tall hat for you and enough little red outfits for your dogs, you can include as many canine friends in this costume idea as you’d like.
Prizes
Of course, our dog Halloween costume contest will end with prizes! You won’t want to miss out on this and other opportunities to win!
Photo Ops
Make sure your phone is also fully charged and your best smile is on deck. You won’t want to miss out on a single Paws & Pumpkins photo op. Cherish the fun and memories for many years to come!
Fun Activities for You and Your Pup
